The 3D horror film The Banshee Chapter blends historical information involving covert CIA programs with fiction to create a terrifying story about top-secret government chemical research.
When young investigative journalist Anna Roland (Katia Winter) sets out to find a missing friend with a history of experimenting with mind-altering drugs, she opens the door to danger and shocking government secrets. Assisting Anna in her quest for the truth is maverick counter-culture writer Thomas Blackburn, played by prolific actor Ted Levine, whose impressive credits include The Silence of the Lambs and the TV series Monk. Anna is compelled to risk her own safety to find out what happened to her friend and to solve the mystery surrounding strange radio transmissions.
One of the most chilling things about the film is that so much of it is taken from real life. Everyone is aware that the government has secrets, but a movie like this makes one wonder exactly what's going on behind closed doors and how shocking and disturbing it could be.
The cast also features Michael McMillian (True Blood), Monique Candelaria (Breaking Bad), Chad Brummett (The Lone Ranger) and J.D. Garfield (The Astronaut Farmer). This fast-paced suspense thriller marks the directorial and screenwriting debut of Blair Erickson, previously known for producing the documentary Standbys. The movie is based on a story by Daniel J. Healy.
The Banshee Chapter debuts in limited release Jan. 10, 2014.
