UFC Undisputed 3 (4) vs. NBA Live 2005 (29)
The third UFC game from THQ reworked the striking game, finally including entrances and shipping with more than 150 fighters. It was a solid effort and a step forward for the franchise. But NBA Live 2005 features All-Star Weekend, and the Slam Dunk Contest was done in a way that didn't seem cheesy or forced. It was just pure fun. So, which is better? An MMA sim title or a throwback NBA Live?
NCAA 11 (8) vs. Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey (25)
The coolest part of NCAA 11 was the inclusion of ESPN's graphical overlays and wipes. It was a move toward full broadcast integration, which we see more commonly in this year's games. But Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey was one of the first titles for N64, and it was basically a hockey version of NBA Jam. At the time, the graphics seemed pretty realistic, but now the game is remembered more for its fun factor than its appearance.
NHL '94 (12) vs. SSX Tricky (21)
A contender to win the whole thing, NHL '94 helps us remember an easier time—when you needed only a few buttons to have a good time. This title, which defines "cult classic," has arguably been the subject of more dorm room fights than any other game on this list. SSX Tricky will try and pull a huge first-round upset. We have our doubts.
Tecmo Bowl (16) vs. Fight Night Round 3 (17)
Few sports games reached the height of popularity of Tecmo Bowl. It seems almost quaint now, but with simple gameplay, Tecmo Bowl was easy to learn and extremely addicting. It's up against the third Fight Night game. Will fans support boxing in an MMA-dominated world?
