Pierce Brosnan, Owen Wilson Star in ‘The Coup’
Pierce Brosnan and Owen Wilson will star in the action/thriller The Coup, about an American family living in Southeast Asia, who find themselves trapped in a nightmarish scenario when a violent military uprising occurs. The family desperately searches for a way to escape the imminent danger surrounding them.
Wilson plays the role of husband and father Jack Dwyer, opposite Lake Bell as his wife Annie. Bell, last seen in Million Dollar Arm, was a replacement for actress Michelle Monaghan, who reportedly had to drop out because of pregnancy. Brosnan is playing what sounds like the most exciting character, Hammond, a heroic government operative. The Dwyer children are played by Sterling Jerins (World War Z) and Claire Geare (Inception).
Directing the film is John Erick Dowdle (Quarantine), who also co-wrote the screenplay with his brother Drew Dowdle.
Recently, co-producer Chris Lowenstein remarked on the decision to film the movie in Thailand, saying, “The producers of The Coup had a wide choice of countries in which they could have based this production. The fact that they chose Thailand is a great testament to the skills of the Thai crews and the resources that Thailand offers.”
In addition to this film, Brosnan has at least two other action adventure flicks out next year, including Survivor, opening next fall. Wilson is also keeping busy with a slew of new movies in the works. He will next appear on screen in Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, debuting Dec. 19.
The Coup will arrive in theaters nationwide on March 6, 2015.
