TRAILER: Joel Edgerton and Jason Bateman Star in 'The Gift'

A married couple deals with a creepy old acquaintance in 'The Gift,' starring Joel Edgerton, Jason Bateman and Rebecca Hall.

Joel Edgerton (Zero Dark Thirty) and Jason Bateman (Horrible Bosses) headline the revenge-themed feature film thriller The Gift. Watch the trailer below.

The film centers on a young, happily married couple, Simon (Bateman) and Robyn (Rebecca Hall), who are planning a family and looking forward to the future when their lives are suddenly turned upside down by the reappearance of Gordo (Edgerton), a creepy acquaintance from Simon's high school days. At first, Simon doesn't even recognize his old classmate. But Gordo quickly leaves his mark. Following a number of uninvited encounters and mysterious gifts, a horrifying secret from long ago is brought to the surface.

Actress Rebecca Hall is best known for Iron Man 3 and Vicky Christina Barcelona. The cast also includes P.J. Byrne (The Wolf of Wall Street), Beau Knapp (Run All Night), Allison Tolman (The Mindy Project), and David Denman (Parenthood and The Office.)

Besides starring in The Gift, Edgerton also wrote and directed it, making his feature film directorial debut. The actor's previous screenwriting credits include last year's Robert Pattinson crime drama The Rover.

The Gift arrives in theaters nationwide on July 31.
