Second Installment in ‘The Hobbit’ Trilogy Due in December
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, the second installment in Peter Jackson’s trilogy based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic novel, features an all star-cast that includes Martin Freeman, Cate Blanchett and Ian McKellen.
In this film, Bilbo Baggins (Freeman) continues his journey with the objective of reclaiming the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor. Accompanied by Gandalf the Wizard (Ian McKellen) and 13 dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage), Baggins’ epic quest is filled with plenty of action and adventure. He manages to gain the One Ring and escape from the Misty Mountains with Gandalf and the dwarves. They press forward with the intention of getting their gold back from the Dragon, Smaug.
The film also stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug/The Necromancer, Orlando Bloom as Legolas Greenleaf, Evangeline Lily as Tauriel, Luke Evans as Bard the Bowman and many more notables.
In addition to directing and producing this highly anticipated fantasy epic, Peter Jackson also co-wrote the screenplay with the same team of writers who worked on the first Hobbit film.
