The supernatural thriller The Quiet Ones, starring Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games), follows Brian McNeil, a student attending Oxford in 1974, who is recruited to take part in a potentially dangerous experiment. His physics professor wants Brian and some other students to harness negative energy in order to create a poltergeist.
Jane Harper (played by Olivia Cooke), an enticing but very disturbed young woman, is the subject of the experiment. The objective is to explore the dark energy that has damaged her mind. Things soon get out of control, and the students discover they have triggered an unexplained force more powerful than anything they could have anticipated.
Mad Men's Jared Harris plays the unconventional professor. The cast also includes Erin Richards, Rory Fleck-Byrne and Laurie Calvert.
Directing the film is John Pogue, who also co-wrote it, with Oren Moverman and Craig Rosenberg, from the original screenplay by television writer Tom de Ville.
The Quiet Ones hits theaters nationwide April 25.
