The first full-length trailer for The Raid 2: Berandal was released last week. The clip confirms the storyline and introduces a few new faces.
Working with a small group of men his brother says he can trust, Rama (Iko Uwais) goes undercover inside a Jakarta crime syndicate to reveal corruption within the police force and to protect his family. To do so he has to get closer to one of the two factions that currently run the town, one led by local kingpin Bangun and the other headed by the Japanese Goto family.
Bangun's only child, Uco, is in prison, giving Rama the perfect opportunity to befriend him and join the ranks of the underworld. But our hero may have a hard time focusing on the goal when revenge is within his reach.
The action is once again on full display in the international trailer. But the setting is clearly larger, with the entire city becoming engulfed in the war.
"It's got the same kind of action beats in terms of the style of action, but our approach this time is to go way cinematic with it," director Gareth Evans told Collider last year. "We're expanding the universe out. We're taking the story out of that little claustrophobic setting and putting it out into the streets and into the high-end gangsters in Jakarta. It's a lot bigger in scope."
During a brief Q&A recently on Twitter, the director also revealed the timing for this sequel and The Raid 3. He wrote, "The Raid 2 takes place [two hours] after the first. The Raid 3 would start [two hours] before The Raid 2 ends."
The Raid 2: Berandal will hit theaters March 28, 2014.
