Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson star in The Rover, a futuristic thriller set in the Australian desert in the aftermath of society’s total collapse. The protagonist is Eric (Pearce), whose car—his last possession—is stolen by a gang of vicious criminals. Determined to hunt them down and recover his property, ironically, Eric is forced to team up with Reynolds (Pattinson), a naïve member of the gang who was left behind by his cohorts amid the confusion of a bloody escape.
The cast also features Scoot McNairy (12 Years a Slave), Nash Edgerton (Zero Dark Thirty), Susan Prior (Muriel’s Wedding) and Anthony Hayes (Suburban Mayhem).
The film was directed by David Michôd, best known for the Australian thriller Animal Kingdom. Michôd also penned the screenplay, based on a story he wrote with The Great Gatsby star Joel Edgerton.
The Rover opens in New York and Los Angeles on June 13 with expanded distribution June 20.
