The Ultimate Conditioning Test for Football
Strength and conditioning philosophies are constantly evolving. But one thing that has withstood the test of time is the 110s Conditioning Test, which gauges fitness levels while enhancing speed and endurance for the upcoming football season.
Visit the practice fields at Florida State, Tennessee and LSU in late July, and you’ll witness players sweating through “The Test.” The Seminoles use the 110s to condition their players’ hamstrings for plays they will be expected to run in practice and in games. The Volunteers use it to confirm that they’re in shape and ready for football. LSU’s director of strength and conditioning Tom Moffitt says his team uses it because “we want to be the best-conditioned team in the country, and I haven’t found a better drill to accomplish this.”(Watch video of LSU football’s off-season strength workout.)
110s Conditioning Test
Begin behind line at back of end zone and sprintthrough opposite goal line.
Use the following chart to measure how quickly you are expected to finish your 110s, per position, per school:
Position | 110 Time for FSU/UT/LSU | Reps | Rest |
OL, DL | 18/18-19/18 | 16 | 45 seconds |
QB, FB, TE, LB | 16/17/16 | 16 | 45 seconds |
RB, WR, DB | 14/15/14 | 16 | 45 seconds |
