New Details About Edios’s ‘Thief’ Reboot (Video)
In this month’s issue of Game Informer, the magazine goes in-depth on the highly-anticipated Thief reboot. The cover features the game’s main character, Garret, hanging from the scaffold of the building. The rendering is beautiful, and is sure to leave fans wanting to know more about the 2014 release.
The teaser offers a brief synopsis of the game, mentioning that it will be played in a place known as “City” and offering the opportunity to steal anything that isn’t nailed down. These details are strikingly similar to the original title. Fans of the series will be salivating for a chance to play it.
Eidos has promised they’ll remain true to the original game’s essence, while also providing next-gen graphics. The original game, Thief: The Dark Project, was released by Looking Glass Studios in 1998. The popular title was one of the first to offer gamers a choice to be good or bad. Because moral choices were such a huge part of the original game, it’s safe to assume the reboot will feature more of them.
The Dark Project, the original game, is almost entirely stealth-based, without much combat. Although some weapons are available, the game mainly consists of sneaking around in the shadows. It’s going to be interesting to see how modern gamers adapt to this style of gameplay, or if Eidos has abandoned it in favor of more violence.
After four years of development, Eidos is finally opening up about the highly anticipated title. In the preview video, the developers talk about their constraints, as well as their dedication to the series and staying true to the original game. There’s some video footage of the original game, but very little of the new title.
