The New York Giants beat the Baltimore Ravens 27-23 on Sunday thanks to some lat
e-game heroics by Odell Beckham Jr. and Eli Manning.
The NFL was probably very happy with the outcome.
Why? Because one of their officials almost cost the Giants a victory with what many are calling one of the worst calls they've ever seen.
The Ravens were facing a third-and-4 at the Giants 38-yard line. They were down 20
-16 with 2:23 remaining to play. Joe Flacco dropped back to pass, and that's when this happened:
DRC covers this perfectly, Flacco throws an awful pass. DPI and I have no earthly idea how they called it DPI. Thought it was OPI. pic.twitter.com/pUPUMHYuFi

It appears that Giants cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie barely touched Ravens receiver Breshad Perriman on the play. Also, the ball was horribly underthrown, and DRC had fantastic position. If anything, the call probably should've been offensive pass interference. The call moved the Ravens all the way up to the 8-yard line, where they promptly scored a touchdown. Social media quickly reacted to the phantom call:
Easily the worst pass interference call I've ever seen.

DPI call on DRC in Giants Ravens one of the worst DPI calls I can remember. Looked like awful call.

I'm really not sure how the heck that's DPI on DRC.

PI call in #BALvsNYG was not correct. Official almost seemed to confuse offense and defense.

"Initially, I wanted to take my helmet off and throw it, but I can't argue calls," Rodgers-Cromartie told NJ.com. "I've never been one to argue calls. Even though it was a crucial call, I've got to live with it because that's the decision that he made. No matter what I do, he's not going to overturn it, so I just chilled."
"That's pretty much teach-tape how you play a ball from a corner in my opinion," said Giants receiver Victor Cruz. "I didn't see the call."
There have been a number of highly questionable calls around the NFL this season. When you combine that with the fact that celebration of any sort seems to be outlawed, it's no mystery why the league's TV ratings are plummeting.
