Thursday Tech Roundup: Earphone Recommendation
Visit any tech store and you’ll find a vast array of earphones. They come in so many shapes and sizes that it’s nearly impossible to know which model will have the best fit or clearest sound—especially for athletes on the move.
With its Muzx Ultra MZX606 earphones, Altec Lansing seeks to provide professional-level sound in a durable and comfortable package.
Altec Lansing focused on fine details to give their earphones a high-end design. Each earphone has a bracket that prevents tension in the connection between the cord and the earphone, which could lead to irreparable damage. This, along with a hard-to-tangle cord and a convenient carrying pouch, makes the Muzx Ultra a great choice for athletes who don’t want to worry about their earphones after tossing them into a bag or pocket.
Also included is an in-line remote that controls an iPhone or iPod Touch, which functions like the remote found on Apple’s headphones. Four different silicon tips round out the package, ensuring that anyone can find a comfortable and snug fit.
Altec Lansing states that each earphone is essentially a miniaturized, full-range speaker, with a mini-amplifier for musician-grade sound. We found that they provide an accurate middle and high-end range, but they left us longing for more low-end bass. The earphones did provide a surprising amount of noise cancellation, which is a great benefit if you’re looking to eliminate surrounding noise on a road trip or distractions when studying.
If you want to blast your ears with beat-thumping bass, the Muzx Ultra may not be your best option. But their superb middle and high-end sound makes them an excellent option for any athlete who likes to get pumped up with rock music or classic pre-game jams.
Muzx Ultra earphones are available at Altec Lansing for $99.95.
