Thursday Tech Roundup: Week in Review
PSP2
The PSP was released in 2005 and since then has received just minor upgrades. The most recent—the PSP go—slimmed the design and removed the UMD disc, opting for games to be downloaded only. Despite this and other tweaks, though, the core of the PSP has remained unchanged for the past six years.
Six years has generally been the timeframe for a major console update, and this may well be the case with the PSP. According to Gizmodo, a new PSP2 [above is an artist’s rendering of what the product could look like] will be introduced in the next few months, sporting graphics similar to the PS3—impressive for a portable gaming system. In addition, the PSP2 will likely come with two joysticks, bringing its gameplay experience in line with consoles. It will also likely forgo the download-only method of the PSP go.
As of right now, other details are scarce, but expect to see more updates in the near future about Sony’s latest PlayStation creation.

Verizon iPhone
Since 2007, the iPhone has been available exclusively through AT&T in the United States. Now, after years of speculation, Verizon finally announced on Tuesday, Jan. 11, that they will sell the iPhone 4 starting next month, making it available to their more than 90 million subscribers.
Verizon’s version of the iPhone 4 is almost identical to the AT&T version, with a few minor exceptions. The metal band—which also functions as the antenna—has been slightly tweaked for the Verizon network, and Verizon will offer a personal hotspot, giving you the ability to connect up to five devices to the phone’s 3G when on the road.
This announcement comes as AT&T continues to face criticism over dropped calls and lack of high-speed data coverage outside of major population areas. While Verizon has been commended for its quality service, users may find slightly slower data speeds than AT&T. Also, users cannot talk and use their 3G internet connection simultaneously.
The Verizon iPhone 4 will be available for purchase on Feb. 10 for $199 [16GB] and $299 [32GB].
