Tim Tebow, Who Hasn’t Played in an NFL Game Since 2012, Was Just Voted America’s Fifth Favorite NFL Quarterback
Tebowmania won’t die.
Despite the fact that Tim Tebow hasn’t played in an NFL game since 2012, a recent poll found the former Florida Gator is still rated among America’s favorite pro quarterbacks.
Just prior to this year’s Super Bowl, Public Policy Polling (PPP) surveyed 410 NFL fans to collect their opinions on a variety of topics, including their favorite (and least favorite) NFL quarterbacks.
PPP allowed respondents to rank nine players, plus “someone else/don’t have a favorite.” Shockingly, Tebow was chosen as the fifth most popular. Here are the full results:
- Tom Brady, 23%
- Peyton Manning, 16%
- Aaron Rodgers, 13%
- Cam Newton, 11%
- Tim Tebow, 7%
- Ben Roethlisberger, 6%
- Eli Manning, 6%
- Russell Wilson, 6%
- Drew Brees, 4%
- Someone else/don’t have a favorite, 9%
It’s certainly not a perfect poll. Offering the names of only nine QBs probably muddled the results a bit, but for Tebow to be ranked higher than guys like Drew Brees, Russell Wilson and Ben Roethlisberger—players who actually, you know, play in the NFL—is pretty shocking.
So why did PPP include Tebow in the poll in the first place? Simple—they know he still elicits strong emotions from many fans. “We still throw Tebow in our polling because he’s such a lightning rod and despite not actually having played in the NFL in 3 years, he comes out as the 5th most popular QB in the league,” PPP said in a press release.
The poll also asked respondents to choose their least favorite NFL quarterback, offering the same group of names to choose from. Here are those results:
- Tom Brady, 29%
- Tim Tebow, 10%
- Ben Roethlisberger, 9%
- Cam Newton, 9%
- Peyton Manning, 8%
- Russell Wilson, 6%
- Eli Manning, 4%
- Drew Brees, 2%
- Aaron Rodgers, 2%
- Someone else/no favorite, 19%
Just like Tom Brady, Tebow is a polarizing figure. Unfortunately for Tim, that’s where the similarities end.
