Gaming Update: ‘Tomb Raider,’ ‘AC4,’ ‘Borderlands 2,’ ‘GTA V’
Last week, a leak fueled rumors that Tomb Raider could leap to next-gen consoles, a PS3 listing hinted at a new Blackbeard-centered DLC coming to Assassin’s Creed 4, Gearbox announced another holiday-themed DLC, and Rockstar released the free “Beach Bum” add-on and a patch for GTA V.
Is Tomb Raider Going Next-Gen?
A recent listing on Amazon Italy sparked rumors that Square Enix may bring its Tomb Raider reboot to the Xbox One and PS4. A rep for the publisher played coy but didn’t deny it when asked by IGN. He said, “It’s so hard to keep a secret these days! We appreciate all of the enthusiasm; however we don’t have any details to share just yet. That said, we highly recommend you keep an eye on any major gaming events happening in early December.”
Translation: confirmation and details might be forthcoming at VGX next month.
AC4 “Blackbeard’s Wrath” DLC Leaks
A listing of new PS3 Trophies disclosed an upcoming DLC for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. Ubisoft hasn’t confirmed the news or revealed the price or said whether the add-on will be included in the game’s Season Pass. But according to the trophy set, the content will allow players to take on the roles of Blackbeard, The Jaguar and The Orchid. Four trophies are up for grabs: Sacred Land, Queen Anne’s Revenge, Preemptive Strike and Elevator to the Gallows.
Sacred Land is achieved by being the highest scoring player of a Domination session while playing as the Jaguar. Queen Anne’s Revenge requires gamers to perform an acrobatic kill and a gun kill in less than 10 seconds while playing as Blackbeard. Preemptive Strike involves blocking 10 abilities from opponents with Sabotage, as the Orchid. And Elevator to the Gallows is given when a gamer kills another player using a lift that has been damaged using Booby Trap.
Borderlands 2’s Thanksgiving DLC Announced
Gearbox announced plans to release “The Horrible Hunger of the Ravenous Wattle Gobbler” DLC for Borderlands 2 on Nov. 26—for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. It will cost $3. The Thanksgiving-themed pack will allow gamers to participate in a rigged tournament against the Wattle Gobbler. To win and gain access to new character heads and skins, players need to poison the turkey-headed Gobbler.
The add-on is a follow-up to the Halloween-themed add-on “TK Baha’s Bloody Harvest,” and will be followed with a third pack, “How Marcus Saved Mercenary Day,” which is slated for a December release.
“Beach Bum” DLC & New Patch Released for GTA V
Rockstar released a free “Beach Bum” DLC, giving gamers access to new vehicles—including dune buggies, camper vans and off-road trucks—and new beach-related jobs, in addition to new weapons and more character customization options.
Xbox gamers can download the content via the Xbox Game Store, but PlayStation users need to download the latest title update to gain access to the DLC. The patch addresses a few bugs and exploits in the online multiplayer game and changes the way rewards and penalties are doled out. For instance, the Bad Sport penalty for destroying personal vehicles has been eliminated, and the GTA$ and RP rewards for Races, Deathmatches and Parachuting will be based on the average time it takes for the gamer to complete the task.
