The trailer opens with Lara on board a large ship, shipwrecked and screaming “Mayday” into a radio. From there, Lara narrates, “Every survivor has a story.” This intense beginning is reminiscent of a blockbuster movie, with scenes of action and friendship. About 0.37 seconds into the video, there’s a quote from CNET: “Will have you begging to go back.” For those who haven’t been there yet, this trailer has you begging to get there first.
The trailer really heats up at the end, with Lara Croft hang-gliding through a dense forest, escaping a burning building, and eventually tossing herself into a helicopter, all while dodging bullets and eluding enemies. It presages a tougher Lara, movie script quality dialog, and non-stop action. With near-perfect review scores, gamers are finally getting a Tomb Raider title they can sink their teeth in.
It’s been a long time since this series has had this kind of reception—maybe not since the original title. With its stellar ratings across the board, this reboot has finally delivered what fans of the series have been craving: intense cinematic quality and open environments—an outstanding update for a series that went stale in recent years.
