This Week's Top Indie Releases (Nov. 20)

Get the scoop on this week's top indie music releases, courtesy of STACK.com.

Included in this week's recap of best indie releases are Her Bright Skies, Beca, and Dinosaur Jr. (Last week's top indie releases (Nov.13) outlines some great projects, including new stuff from Lana Del Rey.)

Rivals is the third studio album from Swedish rockers Her Bright Skies (pictured above). The project, punk-infused rock 'n roll, manages to be dark enough to draw in the black at heart, but not so morbid that hard rock's more casual listeners won't find something to vibe to. This one goes out to the eternal victims masked as rebels. Victory is within reach, but the pain of the journey is still very much alive, noticeable in lead singer Johan "Jaybee" Brolin's voice. Need proof? Check ouy "Up & Away" and the lead single "Lovekills."

Her Bright Skies, Rivals

Rivals is the third studio album from Swedish rockers Her Bright Skies (pictured above). The project, punk-infused rock 'n roll, manages to be dark enough to draw in the black at heart, but not so morbid that hard rock's more casual listeners won't find something to vibe to. Beca, Born to Fly EP

Don't let her pretty face fool you; there's more to New York native Beca. The singer is releasing Born To Fly, her second project via This Is Music Ltd., featuring several versions of two different songs. The EP showcases Beca's laid back vocals over stripped down production. Although it is by all definitions an electro-pop record, the project also feels like a dedication to the principals behind R&B in many instances. Check out the title track and "Rage & Fascination"—the Snorlax Remix.

Dinosaur Jr., Chocomel Daze

In an effort to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Dinosaur Jr.'s sophomore album, You're Living All Over Me, Merge Records unleashed a live album titled Chocomel Daze. The project was recorded in the Netherlands in 1987, during a rare live show that featured the band's original line-up. Included in set list: "The Lung," "Gargoyle," "In a Jar," and "Mountain Man." But if the quasi-best-of compilation doesn't work for you, pick up the band's tenth album, I Bet On Sky, which was released earlier this year.
