Political Biopic ‘Trumbo’ Stars Bryan Cranston
Bryan Cranston portrays blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo in Trumbo, an upcoming big screen biopic. At one time the highest paid screenwriter in Hollywood, Trumbo became a casualty of Senator Joseph McCarthy’s House Un-American Activities Committee when he refused to testify at McCarthy’s notorious hearings. Branded a Communist and professionally ruined, Trumbo was forced to write under fake names but still managed to achieve huge success, winning Oscars for writing the The Brave One and Roman Holiday.
The star-studded cast also includes Diane Lane (Man of Steel), John Goodman (The Hangover Part III), Dean O’Gorman (The Hobbit films), Helen Mirren (Red), Elle Fanning (Maleficent), and, in the role of John Wayne, David James Elliott (Jag and Mad Men).
The screenplay was written by John McNamara, who has written a number of TV series over the years, including David Duchovny’s new crime drama Aquarius.
Directing the picture is Jay Roach, best known as the director of hit film franchises Austin Powers and Meet the Parents.
Trumbo will be released November 6, 2015.
