‘Thor 3’ Gets a Director and a Title
Exciting details are emerging about the upcoming Thor 3. Word is out that Taika Waititi is negotiating to direct this third installment of the popular Marvel film franchise. Waititi is best known for co-writing and co-directing the 2014 vampire comedy feature What We Do In the Shadows. He is a surprising choice for a big budget apocalyptic spectacle film, but Marvel’s outside-the-box thinking when choosing directors has paid off in the past.
Fans will be glad to know that Chris Hemsworth will reprise the title role of the Norse God of Thunder, which helped catapult him to stardom back in 2011. Also returning for this sequel are Tom Hiddleston in the part of Loki and Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif.
The screenplay was written by Christopher Yost, who co-wrote Thor: The Dark World, and Craig Kyle, best known for writing the superhero TV series Iron Man: Armored Adventures.
Thor 3 will be titled Thor: Ragnarok.
Besides working behind the camera, the New Zealand-born Waititi is known for his acting roles. He starred opposite Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 movie Green Lantern.
A lot of buzz surrounds the new installment, which isn’t surprising considering the first film grossed $449 million worldwide, and the sequel earned $645 million. Besides starring in the first two movies in the Thor series, Hemsworth also portrayed the character in two Avengers films.
Thor: Ragnarok will head to theaters on Nov. 3, 2017.
