If you look at Chris Paul, the 6-foot point guard of the Los Angeles Clippers, and were asked straight up if you thought he could dunk, your answer would probably be something along the lines of “absolutely not. Are you insane?”
No one would blame you. Before this week, who knew the last time Paul actually threw down a jam?
But against the Washington Wizards on Monday night, Paul decided to dust off his hops when he found himself alone under the hoop after a turnover. He jumped up and juuuust barely extended the ball over the rim. But it qualified as a dunk, and Paul smiled as his teammates went nuts on the bench, clearly aware that what they had just witnessed was as rare as seeing Bigfoot.
But just because dunking is no longer a weapon in Paul’s arsenal doesn’t mean we should forget one of the most awesome plays of his career—dunking over Dwight Howard. When Paul was much younger and playing for the then-New Orleans Hornets, he gave Defensive Player of the Year Howard, then with the Magic, a facial with this incredible dunk.
Although Paul can’t get up like this anymore, we shouldn’t forget one of the best dunks ever thrown down by a point guard.
