View With Your Crew: Sherlock Holmes
Elementary, my dear STACKletes. Pay close attention to this week’s pick and see if you are clever enough to solve the case before Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most famous character, Sherlock Holmes, does it for you.
Sherlock Holmes (Warner Bros.)
Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams and Mark Strong
Rated: PG-13
Sherlock Holmes (Downey Jr.) and his stalwart sidekick Watson (Law) capture one of their most despicable enemies, Lord Blackwood (Strong), and they watch his execution. It seems like their famous partnership might come to an end. But when Blackwood’s tomb is damaged from the inside and a caretaker claims to have seen a ghost walking out of the cemetery, Holmes and Watson spring back into action.
Holmes surveys the scene of the incident, determined to find a logical explanation for how Lord Blackwood rose from the dead. With a unique sixth sense, which allows him to discover the smallest details and unlock clues, Holmes sets out to recapture Blackwood and prove that no supernatural forces were involved in his “resurrection.”
STACK’s Take: Not bad for a murder/mystery set during the Industrial Revolution in England. Definitely a movie that will make you think. It’s a bit slow at times, but if you don’t pay close attention, you could get lost and feel confused at the end. Entertaining action scenes and cheeky dialogue will make you laugh while they advance the plot. All in all, an enjoyable film to watch with your crew.
