It has just been announced that Vince Vaughn will star in the big-screen comedy, The Politician. The wacky storyline centers on a politician in D.C. who turns out to be part of a scandal. When his actions are uncovered, the politician and his bumbling accomplice decide to run from adversaries on both sides of the law, including the FBI, U.S. Marshals, and a gang of drug dealers.
The 2013 Black List script, written by Matthew Bass and Theodore Bressman (Bad Sports), was the object of a studio bidding war last year. Columbia ultimately won the rights to the screenplay. This project will mark Bass’s screenwriting debut. He is best known as a production assistant, working on such films as the 2007 comedy, Superbad, in which he also had an acting role.
Seth Rogen is one of the film’s producers—in collaboration with his Point Grey partners, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver. Criminal Minds‘ Mark Gordon is also on board to produce.
The Politician is being directed by Michael Dowse, whose most recent work includes the romantic comedy, What If, starring Daniel Radcliffe and Zoe Kazan.
With rumors swirling that he may join Season 2 of the hit HBO crime series, True Detective, Vaughn continues to be a major presence on the big screen. In addition to this movie, he has at least two other upcoming feature films on his schedule.
