The NIT isn’t good for much—it’s sort of like receiving hand-me-downs from your older brother—but it did provide an incredible act of athleticism that should be celebrated on any level.
In the second half of Ohio State’s second-round matchup against Florida, Buckeye point guard A.J. Harris caught a pass in the left corner, blew by his defender along the baseline, and threw down a nasty jam right in the grill of Florida’s Kevarrius Hayes. It’s an awesome dunk regardless, but it becomes even more awe-inspiring when you realize that Harris is all of 5-foot-9, and Hayes stands 6-foot-9, a full foot taller than Harris.
That Harris was able to levitate up and into Hayes’s airspace was so shocking, it forced ESPN’s commentator to exclaim, “He’s 5-foot-9′!”
Yes. Yes he is.
