The life of an explosive dunker in the NBA is fleeting. Young legs provide the spring necessary for a player to elevate above the rim and throw down dunks that send the crowd into a frenzy. Eventually, though, injuries and  general wear and tear bring the high flyers back to earth in the latter stages of their careers.

Derrick Rose learned this the hard way. The former NBA MVP used to thrill fans with his hops, but he now struggles to throw down the most basic of slams. In fact, until last night, he hadn’t dunked all season! This is hardly surprising considering that Rose has been a shadow of his former self. Recurring knee injuries have kept him sidelined for the better part of three years.

So it was great to see Rose drive the baseline, elevate and slam the ball through the hoop with two hands. Although the dunk was not as spectacular as what we used to see from Rose, it was his first one of the season. Watch it below.

Rose is now in the same company as former NBA high-flyers-turned-barely-dunkers like Ron Harper, Shawn Kemp, Vince Carter and even Michael Jordan during his second comeback.
