Gaming Update: ‘Watch Dogs,’ ‘Gears of War,’ ‘State of Decay’
Last week, Ubisoft addressed concerns surrounding the PC version of its best-selling game, Gears of War; developer Black Tusk Studios spoke about the difficulty surrounding sequels; and a trailer was released ahead of State of Decay‘s Lifeline DLC.
“Watch Dogs” Littered with PC Issues; Ubisoft Responds
When it was released last week, Watch Dogs quickly became Ubisoft’s best-selling game. The title has sold more than 4 million copies thus far. But PC gamers are seeing errors, including game crashes and delayed movements.
Some believe the issues are related to the game’s PC requirements; however, many report blue screen errors despite a variety of set-ups and graphics cards. Users must set up an account on Ubisoft’s UPlay site before they can download the game, and players are reporting errors from that site as well.
The developer has suggested some tweaks gamers can make to improve their experience and promised that a patch will be released soon.
Dev Talks Future of “Gears of War” Franchise
Since Microsoft purchased the Gears of War franchise earlier this year, gamers have been excited to hear when the fourth installment will be released. But it’s still unclear when fans will get their hands on the title.
During a recent interview with OXM, Black Tusk Studios’ Rod Fergusson talked about the future of the franchise and the difficulty of maintaining the hard balance between innovation and keeping the faith with fans of the previous games. He explained, “This isn’t a great way of phrasing it, but I always talk about shipping a sequel to customers as ‘managing betryal.’ They want something new, but they don’t want something so new that it doesn’t feel like what they want. You actually have to betray them enough to give them something new and surprising, but not so much that they disconnect, and I think that is a big thing we have to focus on.”
Trailer Released for “State of Decay” DLC
Ahead of its release, Undead Labs posted a trailer hyping new DLC called “Lifeline” for State of Decay. With the expansion, players form a military squad called Greyhound One, which is responsible for safely escorting survivors out of the zombie-infested city of Danforth. Gamers will have plenty of weapons in addition to other military equipment. The DLC also introduces new features like the Field Workshop, which provides instant weapon repair, and the Landing Zone, which allows players to order a supply drop of resources or weapons.
“Lifeline” is available via Xbox Live for $6.99. Check out the trailer below.
