Last week, the long-awaited Watch Dogs received a release date and Killzone: Shadow Fall got some free DLC.
Watch Dogs Arriving in May
The highly anticipated open-world game Watch Dogs will arrive on May 27 for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and XBO.
Conspicuously missing from that line-up is the Wii U. But according to senior producer Dominic Guay, the Nintendo version of the game is still in the works. Talking to Polygon, Guay said, “We don’t have a specific ship date for [the Wii U version] yet so it’s considered within the year. So we’re going to look at that and we’re going to let people know as soon as we figure out an exact date for it.”
Watch Dogs was originally slated as a launch title for the XBO and PS4, but Ubisoft opted to delay its release to improve elements of gameplay. The title focuses on Aiden Pearce, a hacker who taps into Chicago’s technological infrastructure to exact revenge against those responsible for the death of a family member.

DLC Released for Killzone: Shadow Fall
Guerilla Games has released two free multiplayer maps for Shadow Fall. Both are based on locations featured in the single-player campaign. “The Cruiser” is set on a decommissioned ISA cruiser ship and emphasizes close-quarter combat. And the second map, “The Hangar,” is set in a Helghan mining spire.
The game’s first paid expansion, “The Insurgent Pack,” will arrive in April and retail for $9.99 (free for Season Pass holders). It will introduce a new “insurgent” class, which will emphasize hacking and stealing. The DLC will also add new skills to three other classes, three new weapons, a single-player elite mode and a personalized pack.
Guerilla Games also responded to criticism of the game’s resolution during multiplayer play. At the root of the issue is the developer’s use of the term “native.” Although the title runs at 1080p in single-player mode, in multiplayer, it uses technology to augment the graphics.
“Native is often used to indicate images that are not scaled; it is native by that definition,” producer Poria Torkan wrote on the game’s official website. “In multiplayer mode, however, we use a technique called ‘temporal reprojection,’ which combines pixels and motion vectors from multiple lower-resolution frames to reconstruct a full 1080p image. If native means that every part of the pipeline is 1080p, then this technique is not native.
