WATCH: LeBron’s Post-Game Pep Talk to His Youngest Son Is Something Every Sports Parent Needs to See
Bryce Maximus James is LeBron James’ youngest son.
The 11-year-old has already shown off some serious skills on the basketball court, but like any other athlete, he’s not immune to failure.
A clip from an upcoming documentary shows LeBron talking to Bryce right after a youth basketball game. Bryce apparently believes he didn’t do too well because many of his shots didn’t fall, but LeBron quickly emphasizes all the positives about his play:
Really cool moment here with LeBron and his son Bryce.

You can visibly see Bryce’s emotions change mid-way through the conversation. This has little to do with LeBron being a four-time NBA MVP, and everything to do with LeBron being his dad. Youth athletes strive to make their parents proud, and the last thing a parent should do after a game or practice is tell them everything they did wrong. LeBron does a fantastic job of highlighting all the important plays Bryce made. No matter what level your young athlete is at, you can always find something positive about their play.
Constantly berating your youth athlete quickly sucks the fun out of the game and causes them to play scared, drastically increasing their risk of burnout. More sports parents could stand to follow LeBron’s lead!
