WATCH: Marcus Smart Performs the Worst Flop in NBA History
When you’re down 2-0 in a best of seven NBA Playoff series, and you desperately need to win Game 3 to stave off a sweep and early elimination, you pull out all the stops. For the Boston Celtics’ Marcus Smart, that means executing a flop so egregiously obvious that he was immediately fined $5,000 by the league.
In the fourth quarter of a wire-to-wire Celtics win over the Atlanta Hawks, Smart went all out trying to convince the refs that Kyle Korver fouled him while boxing out for a rebound. Smart ran in behind Korver to try to corral a missed shot, took a mild bump from Korver and treated it like he’d been shot out of a circus cannon, propelling himself into the air, landing out of bounds and pretending he’d been injured.
The refs didn’t buy it, nor did anyone within a thousand feet of the flop.
