WATCH: Stuntman Damien Walters Blindly Backflips Over Speeding Formula E Race Car
Damien Walters has performed stunts in movies such as Captain America and Skyfall, but something tells me he’s never done anything as insane as this.
Teaming up with FIA Formula E Championship for a stunt aptly titled “Leap of Faith,” Walters proposed to stand in the middle of a straightaway on the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, with his back turned to a Formula E car speeding toward him. As the car approached, Walters would perform a backflip over it, landing back on his feet once the car had passed.
[youtube video=”EF9bbY3-lQU” /]That sounds insane—backflipping over a car you can’t see coming that’s moving at close to 140 mph. All Walters had to go on was the sound of a timer, activated by the Formula E car passing through a laser. That allowed Walters to begin a mental countdown of precisely when to start his jump. Still, no matter how many times he practiced, if his timing were even a fraction of a second off, the stunt would end in disaster. Walters pulls it off though, in one of the most thrilling videos we’ve ever watched. The 360-degree video of the stunt, seen below, gives you the perspective of the driver, ratcheting up the intensity even more.
