WATCH: The Phillie Phanatic Somehow Crushes Jose Bautista in a One-Arm Push-Up Contest
Ah, MLB Spring Training. A time to get your swing right, bust out the sunflower seeds and challenge the opposing team’s mascot to a fitness contest.
That’s what Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista did before a Spring Training match-up with the Philadelphia Phillies. Going head-to-head through a bevy of exercises with the infamous Phillie Phanatic, Bautista, an impressively fit and athletic pro baseball player, should have won with ease—given that his opponent was an anonymous man wearing an enormous furry costume. But after a strong start, Bautista was outmatched by an opponent he clearly underestimated.
After an even showing of a few Squats and what appears to be some sort of monkey run, Bautista busted out a Walking Handstand, which is insanely impressive in its own right. Though the Phanatic didn’t bother to attempt a handstand of his own, he does rep out a handful of One-Arm Push-Ups, much to Bautista’s dismay, since he couldn’t do a single one.
We’re giving this one to the mascot. Step your Push-Up game, Joey Bats!
