Week 5 Fantasy Football: Locks, Busts, Sleepers and Hot Takes
Week 4 was a pretty interesting week of NFL football with breakouts from unknowns, tons of starters going down to injury and even more upsets than usual. Hopefully the fantasy football Gods were on your side, but if not, it’s time to move on and get ready for week 5.
Before you lock-in your lineup for this week, here are some players to watch out for and some potential game changing matchups you can benefit from! Here are your locks, busts, sleepers and hot takes for week 5! (Try DRAFT on iOS or Android.)
LOCKS
QB, Tom Brady: Brady coming off an upset loss to the Panthers is good enough to make him a lock. He’s not going to lose two in a row. To make this even more convincing, he’s facing Tampa Bay whose defense gives up over 300 pass yards a game. Look for Brady to air it out with a chip on his shoulder.
RB, Le’Veon Bell: After finally waking up from a rather quiet season in Week 4, Bell looks to be back to midseason form. He’s facing the worst-ranked rush defense in the league this week at home vs. Jacksonville and will likely explode for multiple scores.
BUSTS
WR, Amari Cooper: Cooper has been a non-factor all year for Oakland’s offense. His talent is undeniable, and of course, defenses are dedicating their entire game plans to minimize his involvement. QB Derek Carr is out for Week 5 (and beyond), which doesn’t help Cooper at all. I wouldn’t expect him to break out of this slump in Week 5.
QB, Blake Bortles: Bortles has been surprisingly productive this season, putting up some quality performances but I don’t expect that to be the case in Week 5. On the road against the Steelers is not a good place to be an opposing QB, and I expect that stout Steelers defense to force two or more turnovers off Bortles in this matchup.
SLEEPERS
RB, Tarik Cohen: The Bears’ rookie running back is one of the most electrifying players to watch right now. Although he is not the dominant back in the Bears’ offense, he’s getting an increasingly important role in their game plan. Chicago is in a really tough spot right now at 1-3 going into a Monday Night Football matchup that could crush what’s remaining of their playoff hopes. Look for Cohen to break out on Monday; he’s a threat in the run game and passing attack, and virtually untackleable.
TE, Jack Doyle: The Colts are coming off a huge loss to Seattle and looking to bounce back against a very beatable San Francisco team. Still without QB Andrew Luck, the Colts have been turning to Doyle as the preferred target for backup QB Jacoby Brissett. Expect Doyle, if healthy, to get a ton of targets and be a really prominent component of the Colts offense, especially in the red zone. I’d start him.
HOT TAKES
1: All rookie starting QBs in Week 5 will WIN!
- Browns (Kizer) beat the Jets
- Watson (Texans) beat the Chiefs
- Bears (Trubisky) beat the Vikings
2: Tom Brady and Jameis Winston face each other and will each surpass 400 passing yards.
