The sports drama Concussion, centering on the difficult journey of forensic neuropathologist and whistle blower Dr. Bennet Omalu, who first discovered football-related brain trauma in a pro player, stars Will Smith and a cast of other notables.

Smith portrays Omalu. Luke Wilson (Death at a Funeral) will reportedly play Roger Goodell. The star-studded cast also features Alec Baldwin (Still Alice), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Jupiter Ascending), Arliss Howard (Moneyball), Paul Reiser (Whiplash) and David Morse (World War Z).

Partially based on the GQ article “Game Brain,” by Jeanne Marie Laskas, the screenplay was written by Peter Landesman, who also directed the film. Landesman is best known for writing and producing the 2014 biographical crime drama Kill the Messenger.

Producing the movie is revered filmmaker Ridley Scott, along with Giannina Facio (Matchstick Men), Larry Shuman (Devious Maids), Elizabeth Cantillon (Goosebumps), and David Wolthoff.

Concussion will be released in theaters nationwide on Dec. 25.
