Xbox One Released; 1 Million Sold Within 24 Hours

The Xbox One was released Nov. 22. Microsoft reported that within 24 hours more than 1 million consoles were sold. As a result, several of the company’s websites went down, including Microsoft.com and Xbox.com. There were also reports of hardware issues, as some consoles would not read game discs, made strange noises and flashed E100 notifications warning of complete hardware failure.

“The issue is affecting a very small number of Xbox One customers,” said Microsoft. “We’re working directly with those affected to get a replacement console to them as soon as possible through our advance exchange program. Rest assured we plan to take care of our customers.”

Sony also had errors and server problems when it launched the PS4 the week prior. Both consoles are going to be hard to come by this holiday season.

DICE Offering Double XP for Battlefield 4‘s Technical Problems

DICE has addressed the technical issues that marred the launch of Battlefield 4 on several platforms. Last week, a DDoS attack targeted the PC version of the first-person shooter, rendering it unplayable for some gamers. Also, frequent crashes have been reported by PS4 players. The developer hopes to relieve some of the anger by offering double XP to gamers across all platforms for every multiplayer match they complete from Nov. 28 to Dec. 5, in addition to offering them an M1911 pistol scope, previously available only to DICE developers.

“We understand that the launch issues may have impacted your progression, and we want to do everything we can to help you get back the XP that you may have lost,” said DICE general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson.

“You are the heart and soul of Battlefield. We thank you for your support in these early days of the launch, and will continue to show our appreciation as time goes on.”

New Multiplayer Bundles for The Last of Us Announced

Naughty Dogs announced plans to release three new bundles for The Last of Us. The first, “Government Issue,” was released Nov. 19 for Season Pass holders and others; and the remaining two, “Rally” and “Bygones,” are available now for Season Pass holders and will be sold Dec. 3 and Dec. 17, respectively, from the PS Store for $8.99.

The announcement came on the heels of the developer’s statement about “Left Behind,” the forthcoming single player story-based DLC. “We promise [“Left Behind”] will be one of the most compelling pieces of single player DLC ever made,” said the company.

DLC Plans for Call of Duty: Ghosts Leaked

Activision may have inadvertently disclosed the names of upcoming DLCs for Call of Duty: Ghosts via an email reminding gamers to purchase a Season Pass for the title. The email shows four map packs called “Onslaught,” “Devastation,” “Invasion” and “Nemesis.” The first letters of the four add-ons spell ODIN—a name that comes up a lot in CoD. According to the flyer, purchasing a Season Pass will also net players a Team Leader digital contact pack that includes a weapon camo, a unique MP character head, a patch and a player background. A release date has not been announced for any of the content.

In other news, patches for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game came out last week, addressing various glitches, and Infinity Ward announced plans to kick off “Clan Wars” on Nov. 26.
