Sony has finally announced the launch, some time later this summer, of its latest Android phone, the Xperia GX. Unfortunately, the mysterious new phone, previously codenamed LT29i “Hayabusa,”  is scheduled to launch exclusively in Japan. However, Americans are rightfully excited, eagerly anticipating the phone’s eventual arrival to western airwaves later this year.
Successor to the Xperia S, the Xperia GX will launch with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich software and a variety of awesome new specs, including a 4.6-inch HD Reality Display, a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor and 16 gigabytes of internal memory. In addition, the Xperia GX will come with a 13MP camera with Sony Exmor R, HD video recording, and Sony technology for taking 3D panoramic images.
Sony hopes the GX will build on the success of its predecessor, the Xperia PLAY, Sony’s PlayStation portable-infused Android phone. Despite its techy new specs, time will tell whether the new phone will command the attention of consumer in both Japan and the U.S. The phone comes in black and white and will be available without contract for $630.
