The best time to learn a language is during early childhood. Similarly, the best time to learn a basketball skill is when you’re young. The problem is that most young players (and their parents) do not know any good basketball drills that effectively develop fundamental skills.
A lot of young players have trouble dribbling with both hands. Even if they focus on dribbling with their weak hand, they almost always revert back to dribbling with their strong hand during games.
One of the best ways to fix this is to perform Two Basketball Dribbling Drills, either on the move or stationary. The goal is to work both hands at the same time and eliminate the idea of a weak hand.

Another thing many young players struggle with is dribbling the basketball with their eyes up. They must be trained at an early age to keep their head and eyes up and see the floor, or they will learn bad habits.
The answer to this problem is to perform Tennis Ball Basketball Dribbling Drills. The tennis ball forces players to keep their eyes up on the tennis ball toss while handling the basketball. Another benefit of this drill is that it develops great hand-eye coordination.

A point guard must be able to set his or her teammates up and pass them the ball when they are open. Most younger players do not know the proper fundamentals of passing, or the different types of passes they can use. They don’t know how to fake a pass or avoid looking at the teammate they are passing to. These things need to be taught and then practiced with basketball passing drills.

Unless you are shooting on a short hoop with a smaller basketball, I recommend not doing shooting drills. They can create bad form habits, since younger players are typically not strong enough to shoot the basketball the right way. Instead of working on your jump shot, work on proper layup form, both right and left hand and off either foot and both feet.
