Zac Brown Band Will Be Rockin the Daytona 500
The Atlanta-based Zac Brown Band (ZBB) will headline at the Daytona International Speedway while performing at NASCAR’s 55th Daytona 500 pre-race show on Feb. 24. The event will be “up-tempo, rockin’,” said lead singer Zac Brown in prepping for the mini-concert. This will be a different feel from the style of Lenny Kravitz, who headlined last year.
ZBB’s 11-song album Uncaged has been nominated for the Best Country Album at the upcoming Grammy Awards, airing on CBS Feb. 10 at 8 p.m. EST. The ZBB is up against Hunter Hayes, Jamey Johnson, Miranda Lambert and The Time Jumpers.
Of the band’s edgy new album, which came last summer, Brown said, “It’s your basic country-Southern rock-bluegrass-reggae-jam record.” Although they play standard country very well, the ZBB is an energetic group teetering on the edge of folk music. They’ve toured with the Dave Matthews Band and played at the Bonnaroo Music Festival. Their talents are wide and varied, and when in concert, they will likely produce every kind of sound imaginable: metal, funk, hip hop, alt rock, bluegrass and more.
ZBB has already won a couple of Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist in 2010 and Best Country Collaboration with Vocals in 2011. Other awards include the 2009 Academy of Country Music’s Top New Vocal Group and the CMT Music Award for Breakthrough Video of the Year (“Chicken Fried”- see here.) They also won the 2010 Country Music Association Award for New Artist and the Academy of Country Music’s Top Vocal Event of the Year for 2011.
The Daytona International Speedway (also known as the “World Center of Racing”) just concluded the biggest sports car race in North America with the 24 Hours of Daytona. NASCAR Cup driver Juan Pablo Montoya, who will be racing in the Daytona 500, was one of four team drivers who won the just completed endurance race. He drove a BMW Riley Daytona Prototype.
Motorsport superstars like Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart, along with defending champion Brad Keselowski, will be joined this year by rookie Danica Patrick for the biggest stock race in the world. Tickets for the concert and race are available here. The Daytona 500 race will begin at 1 p.m. EST and the telecast can be seen live on FOX. Interestingly enough, Zac Brown Band member Clay Cook will sing the Star-Spangled Banner prior to the Daytona 500 green flag waving.
