Zach Brown Trash-Talked Kirk Cousins, Then Cousins Lit Up His Defense, Then He Got Cut
Zach Brown just learned how bad trash talk can backfire in the NFL.
Brown, a veteran linebacker who made the Pro Bowl in 2016, was released by the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday after starting the first six games of the season for them.
That likely had something to do with the comments Brown made about Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins last week, and then Cousins subsequent shredding of the Philly defense on Sunday.
“Cousins, I think every defense is going to want that guy to throw the ball. For me, that’s probably the weakest part of their offense is him,” Brown told reporters leading up to the game.
“You just want them to pass the ball. You want Kirk Cousins to get it in his hands.”
Cousins did throw the ball on Sunday—29 times, to be exact. Those 29 throws resulted in 22 completions, 333 passing yards and 4 touchdowns as Cousins led Minnesota to a 38-20 victory.
After the game, Brown refused to field questions about his comments on Cousins, but admitted that he “did a good job”.
The next day, he was cut by the Eagles.
While Brown is expected to draw interest from multiple teams, it’s a classic example of trash talk gone wrong.
