Lonzo Ball Was a Dunking Machine in High School
In the waning days of December, UCLA finally suffered its first loss of the season—at the hands of the Oregon Ducks. But the Bruins bounced back nicely against Oregon State a few nights later. As he’s done all season, super freshman Lozno Ball put his fingerprints all over the win, pouring in 23 points to go along with seven assists, six rebounds and one gnarly dunk.

Ball practically jumped through the roof to snag the above alley-oop and slam it home, an athletic feat that left the game’s announcers searching for the right words to describe it. Every time Ball dunks, it feels like an event; and even though he stands 6-foot-6, his throwdowns can still seem unexpected. If you watched Ball in high school, though, you know that dunking has been his thing for a long time.

Hudl put together a dope #TBT video of Ball jamming while playing for Chino Hills High School. In many clips, he catches full-court alley-oop passes from his younger brother LaMelo, who’s currently a sophomore. He also uses his hops on the defensive end, flying through the air to swat an opponent’s shot into oblivion.
So yeah, Ball’s dunking abilities may come as a surprise to those who are watching him for the first time at UCLA, but the kid has been getting up into the stratosphere for a long time.
