ABC Family to Air Mystery Thriller Pilot ‘Stay’
ABC Family has picked up the pilot for a mystery thriller TV series titled Stay, from high-profile filmmaker Jon Turteltaub. The story centers on a newly widowed police detective who gets stranded with his two daughters at a sinister hotel and has to unravel its mysteries to escape.
Network executive vp of programming and development Karey Burke said, “Stay is an emotionally powerful story about a fractured family who comes back together under the most unexpected of circumstances,” adding “Stay is a haunting and surprising ride that we are excited to bring to life.”
Turteltaub, who will direct the pilot and serve as an executive producer, has a long list of impressive big screen credits, among them the National Treasure franchise and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. As for TV, he recently directed the Rush Hour pilot, which was picked up by CBS.
Writing the script is Spenser Cohen (Extinction), who will also be executive producing with his Six Foot Turkey Productions partner Anna Halberg (Nick Cannon’s Big Surprise).
ABC Family, which is undergoing a rebranding, plans to double its original content over the next few years. Other new pilots the network has on the horizon include the supernatural drama Beyond, from Heroes creator Tim Kring, and a comedy titled Gorgeous Morons, from the producers of The Office.
