adidas to Re-Release Kobe’s KB8 Basketball Shoe
Before you start texting your friends and toss out your Nike Zoom Kobe VIs, let us reassure you that Kobe Bryant remains under contract with Nike, and he won’t be wearing any other sneaker brand on NBA All-Star Weekend. Meantime, however, fans and ballers will see the re-release of Kobe’s first signature shoe, the adidas KB8, on shelves of sneaker stores soon. The shoe’s new name: the Crazy 8.
When Kobe entered the league out of high school in 1996, he signed an endorsement contract with adidas to create a signature line of enhanced basketball-specific shoes to help make him quicker on the court. The company held up its end of the bargain, designing, at the time, one of the most functional basketball sneakers ever, the adidas KB8.
The KB8 incorporated adidas’ “Feet You Wear” technology, whose anatomically-contoured midsole and outsole allowed the foot to move naturally. It also featured a friction-resistant inner lining [Torsion stability, which is still used today for the midfoot] and adiPrene cushioning to deal with hardwood surfaces.
The retro-release adidas Crazy 8 is making a comeback with some new features for today’s players. An injected EVA outsole helps lighten the sneaker, and Pure Motion design lets it follow the form and function of the foot for any type of player.
The Crazy 8 sneaker, list price $100, is scheduled for release at the beginning of February. For more information or to order a pair, head to eastbay.com.
