Ben Kingsley and Joseph Gordon-Levitt Star in High Wire Drama ‘The Walk’
Sir Ben Kingsley and Joseph Gordon-Levitt will star in the upcoming big screen film The Walk, about French high-wire artist Philippe Petit’s attempt to walk a high wire between the twin towers of the World Trade Center in 1974. In this biographical drama, Petit (Levitt) is guided by his mentor, Papa Rudy, played by Kingsley and assisted by an unlikely team of international recruits as he prepares for his monumental feat.
The cast also includes James Badge Dale (World War Z), Ben Schwartz (House of Lies), Charlotte Le Bon (The Hundred-Foot Journey), Mark Camacho (X-Men: Days of Future Past), and Steve Valentine of TV’s Major Crimes.
The screenplay is based on Petit’s memoir To Reach the Clouds: My High Wire Walk Between the Twin Towers, which also inspired a 2008 documentary entitled Man on Wire.
Robert Zemeckis wrote and directed the picture. Zemeckis is known for directing a number of iconic movies, including Forrest Gump, Back to the Future, and The Polar Express.
Zemeckis recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about The Walk, saying: “It’s the story of an artist who risks his life to create a performance. Nobody does this anymore—something that is, uh, anarchistically benevolent. Banksy is the only guy who does this anymore. I wonder why that is, why people have gotten so . . . boring.”
The Walk will arrive in theaters nationwide on Oct. 2.
