Bruce Greenwood and Ella Purnell Star in Alaskan Adventure ‘Wildlike’
Ella Purnell (Maleficent) and Bruce Greenwood star in the Alaskan wilderness drama Wildlike. The film follows Purnell’s character Mackenzie, a 14-year-old girl who is staying with her uncle in Alaska while her mother receives treatment for cancer. When her uncle becomes abusive, Mckenzie is compelled to run away, but she is unable to reach her mother. Fearing the authorities will return her to her uncle, she braves miles of wilderness trying find a way back to her home in Seattle.
As the dangerous journey brings her deeper into the Alaskan interior, Mackenzie encounters gruff backpacker Bartlett (Greenwood). She comes to depend on him for survival, shadowing him across the rugged landscape. Initially Bartlett is reluctant to help her, but he eventually gives in, and the two form a powerful friendship.
The film was written and directed by Frank Hall Green. It’s a follow-up to Green’s feature film debut with the 2009 drama Once a Child of God.
Starring as Mackenzie’s uncle is Brian Geraghty (Boardwalk Empire and Chicago Fire). The cast also features Joshua Leonard (If I Stay), Diane Farr (Sin City Saints), Ann Dowd (St. Vincent) and Canadian actor Nolan Gerard Funk, last seen on TV’s Arrow.
Greenwood, best known for playing Pike in 2009’s Star Trek, is currently filming the high-profile Matthew McConaughey drama Gold. Among other projects he has lined up is the TV series American Crime Story, premiering next year.
Wildlike will open in theaters on Sept. 25.
