Game of Thrones fans might be happy to learn that a series based on George R.R. Martin’s werewolf novel The Skin Trade is currently in the works at HBO-owned Cinemax. This award-winning noir novella, published in 1989, was originally written for the horror short story compilation Night Visions 5.

The official log line from Cinemax reads: “A collections agent who happens to be a werewolf, and his friend, a private investigator, discover a dark secret behind a series of grisly murders in their decaying industrial city.”

If the pilot gets picked up for a series, Martin will not be writing for or running the show. Instead, he and Cinemax have hired Kalinda Vasquez (Prison Break; Once Upon a Time). Martin has high praise for Vasquez. He was quoted in Vanity Fair saying hat she “seems to get Willie and Randi, and her pitch to Cinemax was one of the most polished and professional I’ve ever heard.”

Martin joked that he would have “loved” to have run the program and write the pilot, but that he’s been too busy; then he proceeded to tease his highly anticipated upcoming novel Book 6 in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, saying: “I have this book to finish. You know the one.” But fans shouldn’t get too excited about the author implying that he is near completion. Martin has been making similar statements about the book for a number of years.
