Rap News Rundown: Iggy Azalea, Drake, Bobby Shmurda, Chris Brown
Iggy Azalea Tangles With Snoop
After an unflattering picture of Iggy Azalea landed on the internet last week, the rising star found herself on the defensive when Snoop Dogg posted a meme mocking her appearance. She posted messages on social media calling Snoop out for acting differently to her face, and he responded by telling her to “shut up before I shut you up.” The beef was short-lived, however; it ended after Iggy’s mentor T.I. negotiated a peace.
When she wasn’t fighting with Snoop, Iggy was venting on Twitter about her impending “divorce.” “Unfortunately to file [for] common law ‘divorce’ all you need is three of your friends to sign a statement swearing the person’s story is true,” she wrote. “Actually proving it in court is another story. I’m just waiting to get in front of a judge so it can be disproven [and] obtain a restraining order.”
Murda Mook Disses Drake at BET Hip Hop Awards 2014
During a live cypher at the recent BET Hip Hop Awards, rapper Murda Mook dissed the “0 to 100” performer and threatened to end his rap career. “King of battle rap, comfortable in the first place / Here, finish line is all mine, heard Drake? / How you flashbackin’ to actin’, it’s real here / Cripple your career, put it back in a wheelchair / Get killed here / Ain’t no chill here / My demeanor / Don’t play the field here / De-grass-si, it ain’t greener,” he rapped.
The two rappers have no real beef with each other. The jab stems from the two recently meeting up in a nightclub and the YM rapper mentioning that a battle between them would be the “biggest battle in history.”
“It came out of nowhere,” said Mook to MTV News. “A couple drinks start floating around, and then he just came out of nowhere and said he would battle me.”
Bobby Shmurda Reveals Money Troubles; Manager Responds
Bobby Shmurda took to Instagram recently to reveal that he’s not actually making much money, despite having a hit single in rotation and a packed concert schedule. “I’m doing all [these] shows not getting any ma money dey got me doing s*** every f***ing day so it’s hard to keep up [with] dis s*** den I ain’t got nobody to trust,” wrote Bobby.
Shmurda’s mother, who also acts as his manager, responded to the outburst, claiming it resulted from Shmurda not knowing much about the music business. “It’s not that he’s not getting paid, it’s that he’s new to the business. There’s a chain of command that he has to go through before he gets his payment,” she explained. “I guess he’s thinking all the money should go from the front man to his hands—[but] it doesn’t work like that.”
Chris Brown Posts Controversial Tweet About Ebola Outbreak
Leave it to Chris Brown to turn a controversial topic into bad PR for himself. Last week, the R&B singer took to Twitter to theorize about the cause of the recent Ebola outbreak. “I don’t know… But I think this Ebola epidemic is a form of population control. S*** is getting crazy bruh,” wrote the singer. Shortly thereafter, he followed that up with, “Let me shut my black ass up!”
Fans were not amused and were quick to point out Brown’s lack of a degree. TMZ reports some of the messages read, “You’re not a smart person … at all” and “Why morons gotta be famous?”
