TRAILER: Johnny Depp Headlines Oddball Action-Comedy ‘Mortdecai’
Johnny Depp will lead an all-star cast in the big screen comedy adventure Mortdecai. Depp will play the suave, charming and quirky title character, Charlie Mortdecai, an art dealer who gets caught up in international intrigue. The film is an adaptation of the critically acclaimed book, The Great Mortdecai Moustache Mystery, from the series by Kyril Bonfiglioli.

The plot follows Mortdecai’s efforts to recover a stolen painting that may contain the code to a lost bank account full of Nazi gold. Contending with angry Russians, an international terrorist and British MI5, Mortdecai has his hands full as he races around the world on a mission to retrieve the valuable work of art.
Staring as Mortdecai’s leggy wife Johanna is Gwyneth Paltrow. Ewan McGregor plays Inspector Martland. In the role of a beautiful femme fatale attempting to seduce Mortdecai is Olivia Munn (Deliver Us from Evil). The film also features Paul Bettany (Iron Man 3), Oliver Platt of TV’s Fargo, and veteran actor Jeff Goldblum.
Directing this picture is David Koepp, who worked with Depp 10 years ago as writer/director of the suspense thriller Secret Window. As he did for most of his other projects, Koepp also wrote the screenplay for Mortdecai—in collaboration with Eric Aronson (On the Line) and Peter Baynham (Hotel Transylvania).
Depp recently praised the comedic crime trilogy, telling an interviewer from Popsugar, “It’s a very funny series of books and a very interesting character.”
Mortdecai is expected to hit theaters nationwide on Jan. 23, 2015.
