It looks like Liam Neeson will take on the starring role in the terrorist-themed big screen thriller A Willing Patriot. The actor is in final talks to play the lead character, a CIA agent who puts everything on the line for an undercover mission to South America’s dangerous tri-border area in an attempt to thwart a quickly approaching terrorist attack. He is forced to involve himself in an elaborate game of cat and mouse with the menacing terrorist who is planning the attack.
Jason Keller, best known for the fantasy picture Mirror Mirror, wrote the original screenplay and will serve as one of the producers, alongside Marc Butan (Killing Them Softly).
Directing the movie is Danish-born filmmaker Martin Zandvliet (Applause).
The project was previously in development at Warner Brothers before Butan’s MadRiver Pictures took over production. Butan highly praised Neeson and director Martin Zandvliet in a recent statement, saying: “Liam Neeson is one of the defining actors of our generation, and audiences will love him in this role. After seeing Martin’s new film, Land of Mine, we knew he was an incredible storyteller and the perfect match to collaborate with Liam.”
Neeson is currently filming Martin Scorsese’s historical drama Silence, due to hit theaters next year.
A Willing Patriot is expected to arrive in theaters some time next year.
