Angelina Jolie’s ‘Unbroken’ Coming Soon. Watch the Trailer
The epic drama Unbroken, directed by Angelina Jolie, follows the true story of Olympic runner and WWII hero Louis “Louie” Zamperini, and is based on Laura Hillenbrand’s book, Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption.
A major focus of the film is Zamperini’s inspiring battle to survive following a plane crash in the Pacific. He and two crewman spent 47 days in a raft before they were captured by the Japanese navy and sent to a POW camp. Exhibiting amazing strength and courage throughout these trials, Zamperini becomes a testament to the power of the human spirit.
Starring as Zamperini is British actor Jack O’Connell, most recently seen in 300: Rise of an Empire. The cast also features Jai Courtney (Divergent), Domhnall Gleeson (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts 1 & 2), Garrett Hedlund (TRON: Legacy), and Finn Wittrock (Noah).
The impressive team of writers responsible for the screenplay includes brothers Joel and Ethan Coen, Richard LaGravenese (Water for Elephants) and William Nicholson (Les Miserables).
In addition to directing the film, Jolie is one of the producers. Zamperini, who died last July at age 97, had an opportunity to see the film before he passed away, when Jolie did a special screening for him. Entertainment Weekly quoted her as saying, “I brought it on my laptop to the hospital. It was a deeply moving, very profound few hours of my life. Telling his story is a giant responsibility.”
Unbroken will be released in theaters nationwide on Dec. 25.
