You Won’t Want to Miss This Steph Curry MVP Tribute
On Monday, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry accepted his award as the NBA’s Most Valuable Player, humbly thanking everyone from his family and teammates to the team’s equipment manager and the Oracle Arena’s head of security.
This past season, Curry led the Warriors to a 67-15 record. In January, he became the fastest player in history to reach 1,000 career 3-pointers. Writer Zach Lowe has called Curry “a glitch in the system,” since nobody else’s long-range game even comes close.
Stronger Team owner Alan Stein, also the performance coach for the Nike elite DeMatha Catholic High School basketball program, recently released a video on YouTube honoring Curry and, more importantly, his work ethic. Stein first worked with Curry several years back at the first Kobe Bryant Nike Skills Academy, where Curry was “the least recognized” player, but also, according to Stein, the “most impressive.”
Stein asserts that Curry’s success is by no means an accident and that from the beginning his habits have ensured his path to success. For one, Stein immediately noticed Curry when he was the first player warming up 30 minutes before each workout, making 150 shots before the other players even laced up their shoes, and making sure he “swished” five straight free throws before leaving the gym after practice.
