WATCH: 19-Year-Old Dylan Larkin Breaks NHL Fastest Skater Record
For 20 years, Mike Gartner’s record in the NHL’s Fastest Skater Competition has held firm. Despite the faster speed and incredible talent in the modern game, no player has eclipsed his record, set in 1996, when pro hockey was a much slower and rougher game.
That all changed last night at the 2016 NHL Skills Competition, when Dylan Larkin skated a full lap around the rink in an amazing 13.172 seconds, beating Gartner’s time of 13.386 seconds.

Even more impressive, Larkin is a 19-year-old rookie.
At 1:32 in the video below, you can see Larkin explode off the line and use his powerful and smooth stride to easily take the record. He even stumbled around the second turn, but his superior speed made up for the brief delay.
As his body develops and he gets stronger in a pro strength training program, we would not be surprised if Larkin continues to push this record. He might become the first NHL player to break 13 seconds.
