Christoph Waltz Reportedly Cast as Bond Villain
The highly-in-demand actor Christoph Waltz will reportedly portray a villain in the next James Bond feature. Mail Online quoted a source from the production who described the character as “extremely cunning . . . a nemesis of sorts.” However, there is reason to think the character will not be a one-dimensional stereotypical villain. According to another source, “It’s not immediately evident whether the part’s friend or foe or a bit of both.”
Waltz is best known for playing the heavy in a number of films, including the Quentin Tarantino hit Inglourious Basterds, in which he gave an Academy Award-winning performance (his first) as the sadistic Colonel Hans Landa. His portrayal of the more sympathetic Dr. King Schultz in Tarantino’s Django Unchained earned Waltz his second Oscar.
The untitled Bond film, referenced as Bond 24, is expected to begin filming within the next few weeks and is scheduled for release in the U.S. on Nov. 6, 2015. In addition to Daniel Craig as Bond, confirmed cast members include returning Skyfall co-stars Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw and Rory Kinnear.
Based on Ian Fleming’s characters, the screenplay was penned by Bond franchise writers John Logan, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. Skyfall director Sam Mendes is set to helm the picture.
